Why not just buy a gel mat?
Gel mats saturate after about an hour and need an hour set aside to recover. They can't go in the washing machine. And when a dog finally gets a claw or a tooth into one, you're cleaning gel off the carpet.

Questions people ask before buying
How will I know it's working?
Put your hand flat on the mat for ten seconds, then move it about 20cm across to a fresh patch. You'll feel the difference straight away — the spot you were touching has taken your body heat, the new spot is still cool. That's the fabric doing its job.
It isn't refrigeration and it won't feel like ice. It feels like the cool side of the pillow, and it stays that way.
What if my dog ignores it at first?
Some dogs take a few days, and that's normal. Put it where they already sleep rather than somewhere new, leave it uncovered, and don't wash it before first use.
Most dogs find it themselves within a week — they're already looking for cool ground.
Which side goes up?
Either one. Both faces are made from the same cooling fabric, so there's no wrong way up and nothing to turn over.
What size do I need?
Small — 24 x 32in (61 x 81cm). Cats, small breeds, crate liner.
Medium — 29 x 40in (74 x 102cm). Most dogs: spaniels, beagles, terriers.
Large — 40 x 60in (102 x 152cm). Large breeds, sofa cover, or two dogs.
Measure your dog nose to tail, add 10cm, and size up if you're between two.
Can it go in the washing machine?

Is a cooling mat enough on a hot day?
No, and we'd rather say so. A cooling mat helps your dog manage heat — it doesn't replace shade, fresh water and sensible timing on walks, and it will not protect a dog left in a parked car.
